Lisa Curtin and Sian Kelly enjoyed a memorable run to the quarter-finals of the YONEX Belgian International. Curtin and Kelly beat Elsa Jacob and Flavie Vallet 15-21 21-19 21-17 to reach the last eight before they were beaten by first seeds Gabriela and Stefani Stovea 21-12 21-13. Oliver Butler and Abbygael Harris also reached the last eight in the mixed doubles, before they were narrowly beaten 23-21 15-21 21-18 by Patrick and Franziska Volkmann. The pair opened up with a comfortable 21-1 21-5 win over Calvin Devereux and Desiree Toepffer before they got past Turkish pair Bugra Aktas and Sinem Yildiz 21-9 21-18. They then played out an enthralling battle with the Volkmanns, with the German pair eventually emerging victorious after over an hour of play. In the women’s doubles, fourth seeds Harris and Lizzie Tolman were beaten 21-16 21-16 by Natasja Anthonisen and Amalie Cecilie Kudsk in the round of 16 |
